A popular assignment among House members, the Public Works Committee decides where federal funds will be spent to improve the infrastructure of the country. Projects to build roads, dams, airports and subways in the home districts of committee members usually get top priority. The Committee also oversees the aviation and trucking industries. Public Works subcommittees include 'Aviation,' 'Economic Development,' 'Public Buildings and Grounds,' 'Surface Transportation,' and 'Water Resources and Environment.'
